The Story Begins.....in wet wet Korea

Hello to the special Once Upon a Tiger group at Leighswood [One thing we need to do very soon, is think of a good name for the group!]

I am in Seoul, in South Korea, and it is hot, just as I expected, but also very very wet. In the last days there have been 350mm of rain – that is what we used to call 14 inches, which is a lot of rain. They are used to it here, and the water just flows down the streets into big drains. Also it is very warm so it doesn’t really feel that bad, as long as you just imagine being in a warm shower all day with all your clothes on. Well, obviously you don’t stay out in it all day!

Anyway I have met the group you will be working with in Korea. They are the same age as you, and slightly younger [born in 1999 and2000] They go to a kind of after-school club called KoomNamu, which means ‘The Dream Tree’. It is a little house high on a hill in the outskirts of the city of Seoul.

Seoul is very big and very crowded, with 14 million people living here I think. All of them wet!

When you go to the Dream Tree, you take your shoes off at the door, and wear socks, or slippers. There are a few rooms a little like classrooms, but much smaller, and there are a few computers, TV etc. Every week, Won Hye and Ji Hye will be working with them on our project. I have put some pictures so you can see.

I showed them your video message, and they thought you looked very nice. Of course I told them they were wrong about that! They have recorded some messages for you, which I can show you when we get back together in September. They will be starting to work on making up our story at the same time, and I think you will all work very well together. So many things seem to be just the same with them, although other things are very different. At least one of them really likes SpongeBob, for example, so that should please Bailey!!
